Since 2006, BARHD has funded school infrastructure projects costing in excess of $500,000. These projects are typically undertaken in cooperation with the communities the schools serve. Working with the schools’ administrations, PTAs, and Boards of Governors, we identify each school’s most urgent infrastructure needs. We then come to an agreement regarding the financial participation by all parties. For some projects, the schools are unable to participate financially but are able to contribute labor and materials. We next engage a local architect to prepare plans employing to the greatest extent possible locally produced construction materials and expertise. We competitively bid the project, choose a contractor, obtain necessary permits, and begin construction. BARHD’s financial contributions to the projects are made in stages based on pre-determined construction mileposts.
